According to the popular saying, in 1937, heavy rain wreaked havoc in the city of Feira de Santana, Bahia, forcing municipal authorities to transfer the Carnival party to after Holy Week. However, making a carnival in the middle of Lent would not be a very Catholic attitude. And to be without the Carnival festivity was out of the question, so they soon gave another name to the event, parodiating the French party, the mi-carême. They joined the French name "grimace", that is, the masked reveller, and invented the "micareta", giving joy to Brazilians.
